Artist Statement
& Bio

A Tennessee native, born in West Tennessee, I have lived in Nashville all of my adult life. I am married and have four adult children and four grandchildren. I have a degree in commercial art and have studied under several of Nashville’s best known artist. I also taught art at one of our local schools for 9 years.

Being a native of this state I obviously am very loyal to the beautiful scenery we have in West, Middle and East Tennessee. I have tried to capture some of this on canvas. In a small way you can see the beauty on canvas but you can’t experience the smells or hear the sounds unless you are there in person, but when viewing my paintings of Tennessee landscapes, I hope you will be able to imagine the smells and the sounds.

Some people don’t take time to smell the roses. Those who are unable to take the time to do this or don’t take the time for whatever reason are missing out on a great gift from God. I love nature and especially flowers. By taking some of the smallest of God’s creations and making them larger, perhaps more of us will learn to appreciate the smaller things in life.

I also have a great love for the Southwest. The magnificent red hills of Sedona, the beautiful people of Santa Fe, the colorful sunsets throughout the Southwest, when captured on canvas, can be hung in our homes and offices to be enjoyed daily.

Several different mediums are used in my work such as watercolor, ink, pencil, pastels and mixed media. Depending on what I am trying to accomplish with a particular piece of work, I sometimes use mixed media/collage.

My most recent interest has been in Monotypes, a printmaking process used by many of the old masters such as Degas, Gaughin and Rembrandt. (see more about this process on our home page).

I have paintings in private collections in Illinois, Ohio, Kentucky, Florida, Alabama and Tennessee. My paintings have been exhibited at several galleries in Nashville, including the Parthenon, Local Color, and Watkins College of Art & Design. In Alabama at the Grisham-Cornell Gallery. In Dickson, Tennessee at the Renaissance Center.
